Agaves - December Update

Hello Agaves!

In December, The Agaves will focus on different December holiday traditions and foods, Winter Vocabulary and clothing, and Polar Animals. We will also be baking and adding dishwashing to our practical life lessons! We are excited to see our plants continue to grow, and to taste our garden’s basil with our December snack of pesto pasta!

Look out for an email from Ms. Anasazi at the end of the month requesting a photo from your winter break and a few sentences about how your little spent their time. This will help enrich our circle and help us talk about what we did during the holidays when we return from break in January.

In December we have many kiddos to celebrate. Colt, Ivy, Kai, and Zoltan all have upcoming birthdays!

In November, We celebrated Zain who started to visit Children’s House! We are so excited for his next adventure starting in Children’s House with Ms. Blanca and the Prickly Pears!

We practiced oral hygiene using our giraffe-teeth model, and we reread the books we loved from the Dentist’s office employees’ visit on Halloween.

We learned names of different insects and loved reading The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle. We also continued with planting and reading our gardening and food themed books. The Agaves are looking forward to seeing our pea plants and carrot seeds sprout!

We added table setting language materials and Thanksgiving food themed language cards to the shelf! In circle, we named the different foods and practiced saying, “yes, please”, and, “no, thank you”, as we offered and passed them around to friends. Our toddlers are learning the words for apple cider, roasted carrots, squash, stuffing, apple pie, rolls, turkey, mashed potatoes in English and Spanish. They are also all becoming expert table setters!

We read a new favorite book, Apples, by Gail Gibbons. We saw how they grow and different recipes that use them! We talked about the different apples we use in school and which of the varieties that we knew from the book. In December we will be baking with apples and tasting more varieties!

We enjoyed a new song “Good Garbage” by Tom Chaplin, that talks about Thanksgiving and which types of garbage are biodegradable. Give it a listen!
