Greetings Red-tailed Hawk Families!
We have just completed our overnight with the Great Horned Owls and it was a great success! The students had a wonderful time and really enjoyed all of their parent-led classes. Thank you to all of the Hawk parents who helped the evening be such a success. Echo and Hazel*'s parents (Chasa and Kimberley) led a fun cooking class with the students and prepared our delicious breakfast casseroles. Lydia's family (Tehut and Yofathe) voluteered to order and deliver our pizza dinner, and Nathan's mom (Holly) made sure that our gluten-free kiddos had yummy gluten-free pizza to eat as well. A big thank you to our own Mr. Gerry, who generously offered to stay late and sing songs with us before bedtime. It was a great and valuable experience all around!
In the coming month, we will be hard at work in the classroom. We are learning about The Work of Air in class with a series of lessons and experiments. We are also continuing our poetry studies. Many of our students are working on friendly letter writing, and our older students have been hard at work fraction number lines and irregular polygon perimeter and area. We have been working on the Kingdom of Animal Charts and the Kingdom of Plant Charts, and several students are working on researches about animals. There are lots of graphs happening, with bar graphs, picture graphs and line plots, and the students are also working on estimation with our weekly estimation jar. We finished up our group read aloud of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and after our overnight, we enjoyed watching the movie, The Rats of NIMH with the Great Horned Owls, who also read the book in their class.
There are a few upcoming dates to keep in mind, so please make note of the following events in your calendar. Our class movie will premier on Thursday, March 6th (which is the Thursday before spring break). The students voted (by a narrow margin) to do a movie again this year, rather than a play. We will be voting soon on a topic, and then we will hold auditions in the classroom. Once roles are selected, we will be sending home a "filming schedule" which will include some "on location" scenes. The children are excited about being able to go off-campus to film some of our scenes. Another date to remember is our classroom end-of-year camping trip to Camp Tontozona in Payson. Our class will be going with the Great-Horned Owls on Monday, May 12th, and will return the following day by the end of the school day. More specific information will be sent home closer to the date, and we will be discussing the trip in more detail at a later parent classroom meeting.
Thank you again for the support and care you show the Red-tailed Hawks, Keystone, and Ms. Beth and me. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful community!
In peace and appreciation,
Mrs. Amie
