Red-tailed Hawks - September Update

Hello Red-tailed Hawk Families!

Things are well underway in the Red-tailed Hawks classroom! There is so much work happening in all subject areas, and it's great to see the friendships forming throughout the community. Some of the things we have been learning about in class include cursive letter writing, classroom expectations and responsibilities, The Great Lessons (Including The Creation Story, The Timeline of Life, The Coming of Humans, The Story of Writing, and The Story of Numbers), writing in work journals and telling time.

Our older students have been introduced to the 6 traits of writing, and some of our other students are learning about the 4 types of sentences. There are a lot of math material lessons happening, including operations with the stamp game, multiplication with the checkerboard material, and division with the racks and tubes. Our new students have been getting lessons on standard linear measurement, triangles classified by sides, external parts of the fish and introductions to squares with the small bead chains.

In addition to all of our academic lessons, we are learning to navigate the grace and courtesy, increased freedom and social interactions of the lower elementary environment. We are practicing using kind, productive language, speaking up for ourselves and others, and waiting our turn. Lunch is a great example of our we practice grace and courtesy in the classroom, by washing our placemats and spaces, having appropriate lunch conversations, chewing with our mouths closed, keeping our spots tidy, and finishing up in a timely manner so that we can get to recess on time.

Ms. Beth and I are really enjoying working with your students. They are curious, kind, and lots of fun. We are looking forward to a productive, and entertaining year!

In peace and appreciation,

Mrs. Amie and Ms. Beth
