Red-tailed Hawks - February Update

Dear Red-tailed Hawks,

We have a very busy month ahead and a full, fun schedule. The weeks ahead will include hikes, Arizona's Birthday, Valentine's Day, and our classroom overnight. Please be sure to read this email thoroughly and let me know if you have any questions.

The first thing up is our P.E. schedule this month. When the weather is nice, we like to do a "hiking unit" for our physical education. These hikes will take place on trails around the south mountain area. During the month of February, we will be doing P.E. on Thursday afternoons instead of Tuesday afternoons. A general permission slip will be up on SchoolCues to grant your student permission to attend all hikes (there will be 4 in all). Please note that in addition to a signed permission slip, your student will need to bring a water bottle (or hydration backpack) and appropriate shoes and clothing in order to attend each hike. In the case that a student does not have one of those things, they will go to another class to work while we are gone. I also strongly recommend a hat and sunscreen (applied at home) for each hike.

February 14th is Valentine's Day AND Arizona's "birthday." We do not "celebrate" Valentine's Day in class in the traditional sense, including Valentine's Day cards and candy. We will, however, discuss and learn about the history of Valentine's Day. Please do not send in Valentine's Day cards or candy on this day. Also, on this day, we will take the opportunity to celebrate and learn about Arizona's Statehood. This will take place in class and promises to be a fun, busy day.

Lastly, this month we have our Classroom "Campout" (aka Overnight)! We will be doing this on Thursday, February 29th, which happens to be leap day! Both the Hawks and Scorpions classrooms will be spending the night in the gym Thursday evening after enjoying a series of classes presented by parent volunteers. Information will be coming home soon, so please make sure you are watching your emails. They will also be available on our Web update once they are emailed. We will be looking for a few parent volunteers to conduct the classes under staff supervision. If you are interested in conducting a class, please email me.

Please enjoy some pictures of things happening in the Red-tailed Hawks!

In peace and appreciation,

Mrs. Amie
