Red-Tailed Hawks December Update

Season’s Greetings Red-tailed Hawk Families!

It's a very busy time of year in the classroom, so please to read all our updates and communication.

I'd like to thank you all for the generous book donations. In three days we were able to collect over 350 books for a Mesa Public Schools' Reading Under the Stars event! Some of our older students were able to deliver the books yesterday and enjoyed seeing our former assistant, Ms. Janelle.

This Monday will be our first classroom community social at Desert Foothills Park. A note went home earlier this week regarding our Sweet Swap. We will begin at 6:00 at the Ramada and enjoy a nice evening of visiting, food and fun. Please be sure to bring a copy of your recipe for allergy purposes, as well as some to share. We do have some nut allergies this year, so please avoid sweets with nuts.

Another fun thing we have coming up is our classroom GIFT EXCHANGE. This will take place on the half day Friday before winter break. This is an optional activity, however the majority of students usually choose to participate. Please note that gifts MUST BE HOMEMADE, and should have a value of around $7. As Maria Montessori noted, this is the "age of fairness" for students, and inequity of gifts is quickly recognized and causes hurt feelings. In this activity, we stress to the children that it is the thought that counts in gift giving, so please be sure to give special thought and care in creating a gift that another child would enjoy. We also discuss the "grace and courtesy" of receiving and gift. Please see the attached information for more details.

In class we will be making a holiday craft. We are in need of wax-lined cardboard containers, such as 1/2 gallon milk cartons, cylinder bread crumb containers, small oatmeal cylinders (not the large size). Please send in any empty, clean containers you might have at home.

Lastly, we will be having our first field trip of the year this month! On Thursday, December 14th we will be going to see the a matinee performance of the Nutcracker Performed by Ballet Arizona. Please be on the lookout for the upcoming permission slip which will be sent via SchoolCues.

In closing, I 'd like to thank you all for allowing me the pleasure and priveledge of working with your students every day. It is hard to imagine that we are already halfway through the year. We have such a curious, creative, and kind group of students, and I am so grateful to share in their academic journey.

In peace and appreciation,

Mrs. Amie
