AZ Eagles - April Update

March has been busy for the AZ Eagles as we inch closer to the end of the school year, especially as we approach our highly anticipated end-of-year trip. Academic pursuits this month included reading and writing scientific and technical texts, historical texts, and poetry in English Language Arts, while in science students learned about plant and animal biology. The seventh year students also competed in our annual science fair, in which groups of students designed and performed experiments, recorded their results and observations in extensive lab reports, and presented their findings to a group of judges. In seminar, eighth year students completed The Hate U Give and Elie Wiesel’s Night while the seventh years completed The Hunger Games and King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Our literature studies led us to view two films related to our reading, the film adaptation of The Hate U Give, as well as an old classic, Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. We always benefit from seeing our literature come to life on screen, and it’s fun to see how students react to all of the silly moments in Monty Python.

In Humanities, students are studying Pop Culture, Current Events, and the Scientific Revolution. Each group is working on projects related to their areas of study. The Scientific Revolution group is working on the construction of heliocentric models, while the pop culture group is preparing to travel back through time in their decade presentation project. The current event group is exploring real world news stories from various publications around the valley. Our various committees have been hard at work too, with the yearbook committee finalizing the 2023-2024 yearbook for publication, our microecon committee preparing for another sale, and our garden committee tending to our community garden and planning our last planting party of the school year.

An exciting outing this month included a trip to the Ahwatukee Community Garden, in which students toured the facility and learned more about how we can better care for our own community garden. Finally, we spent time the last week of March preparing ourselves for the upcoming state testing, which we are sure will be a breeze for our smart, capable kiddos.
