Dear Parents,
The school year is off to a great start! The children are becoming more familiar with the classroom routines and procedures. They are gradually developing greater independence and becoming more engaged with the materials. We would like to thank you for your support and understanding with morning drop-off. We cannot stress enough the importance of having children arrive at school on time. Children at this age are very sensitive to their routines, and they have a better sense of order when they arrive on time without feeling rushed.
This week, we also welcomed a new friend, Zinnia Rees, to our classroom community. She is transitioning smoothly into the Saguaros classroom, and it has been wonderful to see the other children being so supportive and welcoming as she settles into her new environment.
In commemoration of Maria Montessori’s birthday, we have been learning about her life and appreciating her many contributions to education. The children are learning that our school, Keystone Montessori, follows the educational approach developed by Maria Montessori. They are also discovering that the Montessori materials they use each day are part of the learning environment she developed to support children’s independence, concentration, and growth.
The children have also learned many new songs and enjoyed playing games to develop team-building skills. One of their favorites is the “Colors” song, where each child is assigned a color and follows the song’s directions (e.g., red: stand up; green: turn around).
We have been reinforcing Grace and Courtesy lessons to support positive social interactions. Some examples include how to interrupt politely, how to wait patiently, and how to stand in line peacefully.
This week, we celebrated Liam’s 5th birthday. Happy birthday, Liam! Thank you to Liam and his family for bringing birthday treats to share with his classmates.
