March Update

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind. If we therefore mind this embryo as our most precious treasure, we will be working for the greatness of humanity” (Dr. Montessori, 2007, p. 28).

The Prickly Pears children continued learning about the contributions and legacy of some African American people such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. and Maya Angelou. This week the children learned about Rosa Parks’s pivotal role in the Montgomery buss boycott and we continued honoring important concepts such as respect, unity, equality, peace, community, and love. We read the book Rosa Parks (Little People, BIG DREAMS) written by Lisbeth Kaiser.

We also read the book It is Ramadan, Curious George written by H. A. Rey to illustrate the meaning of Ramadan, the fasting, feasting, and reflection. These spoken language activities give the Prickly Pears children great opportunities to learn about other people’s cultures, traditions, and celebrations.

Since spring is almost here, we are kindly asking for your support to embellish our outdoor environment. We need seasonal flower plants such as chrysanthemums, geraniums, lantanas, pansies, and heleniums. You are also welcome to donate soil and succulents as well.
