Hello Red-tailed Hawk Families!
We have had a busy month in the Red-tailed Hawks’ classroom. Our older students are in various stages of the Writing Process in their persuasive essays, and our younger students are working on singular and plural possessive apostrophe usage. Several students are working with dialogue writing with quotation marks, and enjoying “silent” conversations by writing dialogue writing back and forth. We have begun two different Novel Study groups. We also voted on our classroom movie. The working title is, “The Red-Tailed Hawks Super Terrific Happy Hour”, which will be a, “Ed Sullivan/Steve Allen- style” Variety Show! We will begin filming in February, after we write the screenplay and hold auditions. Please be sure your calendar is free for our World Premier on Thursday, March 5th at 6:00pm.
The lovely weather has allowed us to have several picnic lunches in the courtyard, and we have been able to harvest some of our radishes. We have also been introducing more botany lessons and experiments.
Our AMI consultation took place a few weeks ago. She was happy to confirm what we already knew, Keystone is a beautiful campus dedicated to providing an authentic Montessori education, and that the Red-tailed Hawks’ classroom and students were (in her words) “fantastic” (which I wholeheartedly agree).
Next month we have a few hikes scheduled. A sign-up will be sent home the first week of February. Our hiking dates are February 10th, February 19th, and February 27th. On those dates, please help your child to remember to wear appropriate hiking shoes not slip-ons, Crocs, or Vans without tread), appropriate hiking clothes, and a hat. They will also need a water bottle, or Camelback-style hydration system. Students who do not have all of these items will not be allowed to join us on the hike, and will be able to work in another lower elementary classroom while we are gone. We will be traveling via the school vans, with an additional Keystone Staff member to drive the 3rd van.
Lastly, as the weather cools down we have had a few children bringing in ramen noodles to cook at lunch. While we are able to occasionally do this, I would like to remind you to please keep lunch meals to reheating foods, rather than cooking foods, so the students to have enough time to eat before clean up time.
Thank you all so much!
In peace and appreciation,
Mrs. Amie
