Happy New Year Red-tailed Hawk Families! I hope you all had a restful and joyous winter break! It is great to be back in the classroom and seeing all of the remarkable growth our Red-tailed Hawks are making! January is a busy month, and we have had some changes to our event dates, so please be sure to make corrections on your calendars.
In class we have a large variety of work happening. The students are enjoying Work of Water lessons, most recently learning about the water cycle and the importance of water in our lives and health. There is a lot of writing going on right now, including persuasive papers, friendly letter writing, and sentence formation. Several students are working with sentence analysis, which helps them learn about sentence structure, and it is also a fun opportunity to create silly sentences while learning. Our older students are working with order of operations and perimeters, as well as biomes in biology. We’ve had a plethora of radishes pop up with the recent rains, and hopefully our sunflowers will bloom soon. There is a lot of geography work happening, including state abbreviations, state capitals, maps and more.
In other news, we have had to change the details of our classroom overnight at the school. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Red-tailed Hawks classroom overnight will now take place on Thursday, March 26th. This is a Thursday before the half-day Friday in March. We will be doing that overnight with the Scorpions Classroom. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will also have some updated information regarding the end-of-school camping trip for you soon.
The Montessori Journey will be taking place at the end of the month on Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st. I cannot recommend this experience enough! It is a special way to get an inside view of Montessori and learn about what your child is experiencing throughout their Montessori Journey. This year I am excited to be one of the Lower Elementary teachers presenting lessons, and I would love to share this experience with you! Sign-up information will be provided soon. If you are new to Montessori, or would just like to get a deeper understanding of why “we do what we do” I encourage you to join us.
Thank you again for your love and support of the Red-tailed Hawks. Mrs. Beth and I are honored to work with you children and are grateful for your support.
