November Classroom Newsletter
November has been a meaningful, joyful, and productive month in our classroom. The children showed steady growth in independence, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning. It has been a pleasure to watch them engage deeply with new lessons across all subject areas and to see their curiosity flourish.
Academic Highlights
Mathematics
This month, the children encountered many new math lessons and materials.
They explored:
- Racks and Tubes long division
- Large Bead Frame long multiplication
- Stamp Game group division
- Divisibility and multiples
- Money work
- Geometry lessons including:
- Types of triangles (right, acute, obtuse)
- Properties of polygons
- Congruent, similar, and equivalent figures
- Constructing shapes with a compass
- Area of a parallelogram
These lessons offered a wonderful balance of concrete, hands-on experiences and abstract reasoning, and the children approached each new challenge with focus and pride.
Language
In language work, students continued to strengthen their foundational and advanced skills:
- Phonics and reading fluency
- Sentence analysis and grammar lessons
- Parts of speech: pronoun, conjunction, article, noun
The older children practiced opinion writing, and our Novel Study sessions were a big highlight:
- 3rd Grade: Completed Because of Winn-Dixie and began Charlotte’s Web
- 2nd Grade: Completed Flat Stanley and began Magic Tree House
Their joy for reading continues to grow each week.
Science & Cultural Studies
This month’s cultural and science lessons included:
- Parts and functions of plant stems, leaves, and fruits
- Time zones
- Sedimentation and layers of the Earth
- Earth and Sun relationship
Students were fascinated by these explorations of the natural world and eagerly shared their observations and questions.
Special Events & Community Activities
Fall Festival
The children practiced their Fall Festival dance throughout the month with tremendous excitement and teamwork. Their performance was full of joy and confidence—we were so proud of them!
Library Trips
Small groups visited Ironwood Library on Fridays. These outings continue to be a favorite part of the week. Students enjoyed choosing books, practicing library etiquette, and sharing new discoveries with classmates.
Thanksgiving Potluck Preparation
In preparation for Thanksgiving, students:
- Created beautiful placemats
- Designed festive decorations
- Learned about gratitude and community
We ended the month with a joyful classroom Potluck, where the children shared food, conversation, and warm moments together. Thank you to all the families who contributed—your support made this celebration very special.
Parent Involvement
Throughout November, we welcomed many of you for classroom observations and parent–teacher conferences. Thank you for taking the time to connect with us and support your child’s learning journey. Your partnership is invaluable and helps create a strong, nurturing classroom community.
