Hello Red-tailed Hawk Families and Happy Fall!
The cooler weather has allowed us to spend a little more time outside and we are really looking forward to being able to open up our garage door soon! We have a lot of work happening in the classroom including fraction equivalence, improper fractions to mixed numbers, fraction formation, and fraction addition and subtraction. Many of the students have received lesson on picture graphs, which as inspired a great deal of follow up work. We are deep in the study nouns, with noun classification of proper/common nouns, singular/plural, gender-specific nouns and more. Additionally, we have some younger students working with land and water forms, and others working with basic geometry concepts. There is wonderful group work happening, and our third grade leaders and setting a great example for our younger friends.
Work on our auction art project is “rolling along”. The children are rolling paper beads using a variety of colors and textures, which will be set against a beautiful watercolor desert backdrop. A huge thank you to our Class Key parents for helping develop this piece, and to our many other generous volunteers who have offered their assistance as well. Tickets for the Fall Festival go on sale on September 29th with early bird pricing!
*FALL BREAK FAMILY HOMEWORK* The Red-tailed Hawks will be using real leaves for our Thanksgiving placemats this year. If you are traveling during the break to a location that has changing leaves, we would love to have you bring some back for us. If you have an old book, a sketch pad, or two pieces of cardboard, you can place leaves inside to keep them in one piece until they can be brought into class.
After we return from fall break, we will begin classroom observations. Sign ups will be available through our new school app. Observations are available one per family for 30-minute time slots. When signing up for an observation, you will also sign up for a separate parent-teacher conference to be held within a week of the observation. Please be on the look out for additional information as the time approaches.
