The needs of mankind are universal. Our means of meeting them create the richness and diversity of the planet. The Montessori child should come to relish the texture of that diversity”. - Dr. Maria Montessori
It can be rolling a rug, watering the plants, building words utilizing the Moveable Alphabet or performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division utilizing the Bank, it is beautiful to observe the children truly engaged on that specific piece of work. What matters is how the child embraces the learning process and portrays the development of the will. Since September is the patriotic month in Mexico and some other countries of South America, and the Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, the Prickly Pears children celebrated singing “Viva Mexico” and “Cielito Lindo” listening to music of mariachi as they enthusiastically chanted “Viva Mexico”. During the month of September, the Independence Day is celebrated with delicious food, colorful parades, traditional events, and beautiful music. The Prickly Pears children learned about the coat of arms of the flag of Mexico and color the eagle perched on a prickly pear and learned the meaning of the colors of the Mexican flag. The children continued bringing family pictures and also continued learning new Spanish vocabulary of family “familia”. They enjoyed watching each other’s family pictures in our Family Board and started talking enthusiastically about their family members during Circle Time.
We gladly welcomed fall/autumn and the children enjoyed reading aloud activities. We read the books: Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf written by Lois Ehlert and Good Bye Summer, Hello Autumn written by Kenard Pak. We talked about the different seasons of the year and the outdoor activities that we can do to have fun. The Prickly Pears children had the opportunity to play at the Children’s House playground and cannot wait to come back to our regular playground schedule. Since the weather is gradually getting better, we are kindly reminding you to apply sunscreen to your child before coming to Keystone. This will help us transition smoothly.
Our heartfelt appreciation to our Class Keys for their kind support. Kryslen, Maria, and Michelle have been contributing to the Prickly Pears Montessori community amazingly. The Prickly Pears Art project and the classroom basket are in progress! The children have been portraying their creativity and enthusiasm with the help of our Class Keys. Thank you again Kryslen, Maria, and Michelle!
If your child is registered as a ED/AY student and will attend school during Fall Break, please pack morning/afternoon snack and lunch and a labeled water bottle.
