WHAT IS A SCHOOL TAX CREDIT? Arizona law allows Arizona taxpayers to contribute $200 for single or head of household and $400 for married taxpayers to a public school for support of extracurricular activities and receive a dollar-for-dollar credit. Extracurricular activities include but are not limited to field trips, fine arts, visual arts, athletics and scientific laboratory equipment and materials. Your donation may be designated for general support of extracurricular programs at Keystone or your may designate a specific extracurricular program.
HOW DO I RECEIVE MY TAX CREDIT? Fill out the donation form and return it to Keystone with your payment or make your donation online at www.keystonemontessori.com.
You will receive a receipt from Keystone. Put it in your tax file. At tax time, you or your tax preparer will report your credit on Arizona Form 322.
A tax credit is a full refund of your money provided you have a tax liability equaling or exceeding your donation. So, if your taxes due were $1000 and you made a $400 donation to Keystone, you would only owe $600. If you had a refund coming of $1000 and you made a $400 donation to Keystone, your refund will be $1400. IT COSTS YOU NOTHING.
The amount claimed as a tax credit on your Arizona individual tax return cannot also be claimed as a deduction on your Arizona individual tax return. However, you can itemize your contribution on your Federal income tax return.
WHEN SHOULD I MAKE MY 2006 SCHOOL TAX CREDIT DONATION? The deadline to make a donation is December 31 of each year. Don't wait! Please make your donation today. Keystone will use the money immediately for Spanish, Outdoor Environment, Music, Art and Field Trips.
DO I HAVE TO DONATE THE FULL AMOUNT ALL AT ONCE? The School Tax Credit donation can be contributed in increments throughout the tax year. Call Keystone for details.
DOES THIS QUALIFY FOR EMPLOYER MATCHING FUNDS? Yes, employer matching funds may double or triple your donation. Contact your employer's human resources or benefits department to verify participation. Then, just fill out the employee portion of the application and return it to Keystone. Keystone will submit the completed application.
CAN I SUPPORT PRIVATE SCHOOLS, TOO? Yes, you can take both the Private School and Public School Tax Credit on your individual tax return.
DO I HAVE TO BE A PARENT OF A PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT? No, any Arizona individual taxpayer qualifies for this credit.
CAN I MAKE MULTIPLE PUBLIC SCHOOL TAX CREDIT DONATIONS? Yes, you may make donations to multiple schools. However, the total of your donations may not exceed $200 or $400 depending on your filing status.
